Self Reflection

My freshman year at Newtown High School is coming to an end. i have completed many tasks that have been assigned to me, some of which were fun an others that I did not like as much. Now by taking a step back and looking at the four major catigories English is incoperated in I can look at the big picture and evelaute myself for the whole year. I have had both strengths and weaknesses as a reader, writer, speaker and listener. Throughout all of the papers that I have done I have developed an extreme amount. As many times that I was down in a ditch with work I got back out and feel very prepared for my sophmore year here at Newtown High. After writhing this essay both you and I will have a much clearer picture on how my first year at High School went, how I developed with working on my strengths and trying to overcome some of my weaknesses.

Reading has never really been something that I truly enjoyed or something that I would just do in my free time. This year and summer was very differnet though. I actually enjoyed reading some of the books that we read for class and I especially enjoyed the summer reading where I read two books that I liked a great deal. The one book that I liked the most was called "The Night Stalker". It was the true life story of serial killer and how he grew up and all about the killings that he committed. It was reality and that is most likly what really made me like the book. I do not really like reading those books that are not at all true and the ones that have no meaning in the end. The book that I read put me into the life of the serial killer and I really understood how sick he was. The most important thing that I learned about reading this year is that you must understand the book that you are reading in order to truly enjoy it.

I have really also developed as a writer through all of the years. From the days when I was younger I used to write in the sam e simple form all of the time. I would do the three paragraphs and then the typical introdution and conclusion. Now I have understood how to write in several other forms and I now I am a much more versital writer. I can write about poetry and many other things that require doing different things in the conclusion and introdution.

Last year in English I did not really speak at all in front of the class untill the last few weeks when we had our final project. It was hard forme to do this assignment because I had not really done a speach in a very long time. To be excate I had not done one since fifth grade. It was very nerve racking to get up in front of the class and talk to everyone. I do not really think that I have developed into much more of a speaker since fifth grade because I have not really done many speaches at all, speaking is not one of those things that is really focused on.

Last year in English class we did not really watch any movies but when we did at the end of the year it was a lot of fun. I feel that I understood the movie that we watched which was "Romeo and Julliet". It had very different language and it was one of those movies that would have been a bit confusioning if you did not know the whole story before you read the movie. I did not really like certin parts of the movie but I felt that once it was done I was really good at understanding the movie and writing a paper on what the film was about. This is really the only time that I have ever watched a movie and wrote about it.

Over the years I have really become a better listiener in the respect that I always give teachers my full attention. I respect them and when they talk I will listen and try to understand them as best as I can. I most of the time enjoy listiening to a teacher if what they are talking about is interesting or something that I am more curious to learn about. I really like hearing the teachers talk about books and when they give there oppion to me on how they feel it really helps me out a lot in understanding the meaning of books.

In my freshman year at Newtown High I really learned a lot. I learned so much that it is incrediable to think about the amount of knwledge I will be taking away with me at the end of my sophmore year. I look foward to learning more and am hungry for more knowledge in the aspects of a reader, writer, thinker, listioner, and viewer.
